Shaping is incredibly fun to teach; however, sometimes the mechanics of getting started may be daunting. While completing a behavior is very exciting, the real thrill is the process itself. From the first glimmer of understanding to the light bulb fully on, each step is a joy to behold.
With shaping, your timing and creativity will improve, you will become better at recognizing small approximations and learn how and when to raise criteria–or when not to raise criteria, when to try something different, end a particular session and when to keep going.
You and your dog will become a more close-knit team while pursuing these fun and functional behaviors. User friendly instructions are demonstrated with “real” dogs and their handlers, showing the process of working through each of these 21+ versatile behaviors.

Great “How To” video! Review by Kristin
This is a fantastic “how to” video for owners and trainers that are new to shaping. This video is packed with many examples of shaping different behaviors, so it’s probably better as a reference video that you review before teaching something new as opposed to one you watch once and put on the shelf. I used her method to teach nail filing and had both my dogs filing their nails in one night. Towards the second half of the video she focuses much more in agility-related tasks, so it would be great for someone interested in agility too.
Excellent Review by Helaine
DVD actually matches up with the description. I could not stop watching. Clear instruction, great use of demo dogs with different skills. I was able to apply the techniques to grooming and trick behaviors. Pam is an excellent teacher.
